A passionate-even-while-severely-sleep-deprived Miyavi talks to Asia Pacific Arts about rocking our worlds and leaving his fans saying “What the f*ck is this??”
- Earlier in 2010, I tried & failed to hold an interview, but I got him this time around! I Skyped him from LA, while he was in Osaka coming back from a concert at 6AM and I called him at 8AM ‘cause he had a train to catch in a few hours to another city. Sorry for waking you up, but I hope the interview was worth it! (He tweeted it his followers, so I guess he liked it enough!)
He is definitely quirky and eccentric in this calm, zen kind of way. It’s an unusual juxtaposition, but he’s just so comfortable in his own skin that I couldn’t help but be in awe of how natural and sure he is of who he is and what he wants. Balancing being a family man and rock star, he is one of the deeper musicians I’ve been lucky enough to chat with. Even while sleepy, he was really passionate and interesting, so if I had another chance to chat with him when he’s fully awake, I’m sure it’d be even more fun! And I’d like for Bobo to be there next time too! (and Jewelie… and Lovelie… Just bring your whole family too!!)
The best part was whenever he would say “samurai” (which was actually quite often), he would dramatically pause and then huskily whisper it. I’m not sure why, but it was just kind of amazing/funny.
